Black Friday and Cyber Monday: Getting Your Deliveries Ready Before the Rush
Black Friday and Cyber Monday: Getting Your Deliveries Ready Before the Rush
Black Friday falls on 27th November this year, with Cyber Monday following on 30th November. For retailers, wholesalers and the suppliers behind them, the weeks leading up to that weekend are some of the busiest of the year. Promotions are planned months in advance, but it is often the logistics behind them that decide whether the weekend goes smoothly. A little preparation in early November can make a real difference. Here is where to focus.
Get Stock Where It Needs to Be
The best promotion in the world can’t sell stock that is sitting in the wrong place. Now is the time to check that products are in the right stores, warehouses and fulfilment centres before demand peaks. Moving stock early gives you room to deal with the unexpected. If a supplier delivery arrives late or a product line performs better than forecast in one location, you still have time to rebalance before the weekend arrives.
Plan for the Bestseller You Did Not Predict
Every peak period produces a surprise. One product sells out by lunchtime while another barely moves. When that happens, waiting until the next scheduled delivery can mean empty shelves and missed sales. A same day courier gives you a way to respond, as stock can be collected from a warehouse, a supplier or another store and delivered directly, without passing through a depot network. Knowing who you would call, before you need to make that call, saves valuable time on the day.
Do Not Forget the Supporting Deliveries
Peak trading relies on far more than the products themselves. Packaging, labels, point of sale displays, card terminals, replacement parts for equipment and IT hardware all need to be in place. Running out of something small can stop an operation just as quickly as running out of stock. It is worth walking through your operation and asking a simple question, if this ran out or broke on Black Friday, how quickly could we replace it?
Share the Details Early
If you expect to need extra transport during the Black Friday period, tell your courier in advance. Likely collection points, delivery locations, vehicle sizes and access restrictions are all useful to know ahead of time. The more your courier understands about your plans, the faster they can respond when a request comes in. Setting up an account before the busy period also means bookings can be made in minutes when time is short.
Think Beyond the Weekend
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are no longer a single weekend. Many promotions start earlier and run longer, and the weeks that follow lead straight into Christmas. Restocking after the weekend, moving returns and preparing for December all need to be part of the plan.
